What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are smooth gels made mostly of hyaluronic acid, a sugar your skin already produces to hold on to water. Placed in small amounts beneath the skin, the gel adds support where it has been lost or where a little more shape would bring the face into balance.

The body breaks hyaluronic acid down slowly, so filler is not permanent. That is part of the appeal: results can be built gradually, adjusted over time and topped up only when you want to.

Four ways we use filler

Lips. Hydration and definition along the border, or a little more fullness, kept in proportion with your face.

Cheeks. Support over the cheekbones to restore lift and the soft curve that thins with age.

Nose. Careful filler placement to smooth a bump or refine the profile, without surgery. Not every nose is suitable, and we will say so at your consultation.

Facial rebalancing. A plan across several areas, often chin, jawline and cheeks, that looks at the face as a whole rather than one feature at a time.

Is it right for you?

It may suit you if

  • You want a subtle, natural-looking change to shape or balance
  • You are 18 or over (filler for cosmetic reasons is illegal under 18 in England)
  • You understand results last for a period and then fade

It may not be suitable if

  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You have an active cold sore, spots or infection near the area
  • You have had a reaction to hyaluronic acid filler before
  • You have an autoimmune condition or bleeding disorder, unless your clinician agrees it is safe

We ask about your health, medicines and any previous filler at your consultation. If a treatment is not right for you, we will tell you.

Risks and side effects

Filler side effects tend to be mild and brief, but this is a medical treatment with real risks, which we explain before you decide.

  • Swelling, tenderness and redness, usually for a few days
  • Bruising where the needle or cannula went in
  • Small lumps or unevenness while the filler settles
  • Rarely, infection or an allergic reaction
  • Rarely, filler blocking a blood vessel, which needs urgent treatment and can damage the skin. Your clinician is trained to recognise and manage this straight away

Before you leave we explain what is normal, the warning signs to look out for and how to reach us at any time after your appointment.

Individual results vary. Results depend on your skin, age, lifestyle, the number of sessions and how closely you follow aftercare advice.

Anything else? Ask us at your free consultation, or call 020 7531 6600.

Will it look natural?

That is the aim of every plan. We work in small amounts, in proportion with your features, and would rather you come back for a little more than leave with too much.

How long does filler last?

It varies with the area, the product and how quickly your body breaks it down. Lips tend to fade sooner than cheeks or chin.

What is facial rebalancing?

Instead of treating one feature, we look at how your chin, jawline, cheeks, nose and lips work together, then plan small changes across several areas so the face looks more in balance.

Can filler change the shape of my nose?

Filler can smooth a bump, lift a drooping tip or straighten the look of the profile. It cannot make a nose smaller, and some noses are better left alone, so we assess yours first.

Does it hurt?

Most people describe a pinch and some pressure. Many fillers contain a local anaesthetic, and we can apply numbing cream first.

Is there an age limit?

Yes. In England it is against the law to give cosmetic filler to anyone under 18, and we may ask for photo ID.

How much does filler cost?

Lip and cheek filler cost £450 per syringe and nose filler £550 per syringe. Your consultation is free, and you will know the full price of your plan before you book.
